"What I've Learned", Jack LaLanne
I've been catching up on my reading over the past few days, and I came across this article in the August Issue of Esquire Magazine....
Esquire started a column a few months back called "What I've Learned", which has featured several celebrities giving their viewpoints and opinions on life. There are some solid pieces of advice that I've been able to pick up from these columns. Well, here's a few snippets from Cal Sussman's interview with "The Guru", Jack LaLanne. LaLanne is an incredible teacher in this society, and if we listened more to his principles, I think we could not only live a little bit longer, but the world would be healthier place.
Check out some of his thoughts...I need to start juicing.
"I'm going to be ninety in September. Everybody else can have a piece of the birthday cake, but not me. I have rules, and I follow 'em. No cake, no pie, no ice cream! Haven't had any in 75 years. It makes me feel great not eating birthday cake. That's the gift I give myself."
"If Man makes it, don't eat it."
"Of course I have fears, But what good is thinking or talking about them? Billy Graham is about the hereafter. I'm for the here and now."
"You've got to satisfy you. If you can't satisfy you, you're a failure."
"Look, are you a suckling calf? Name one creature on earth that uses milk after it's weaned. Man's the only one. And man's the only one who lives out only half his life span. A cow has four stomachs. You don't. You can't handle whole milk."
"Your waistline should be the same as it was when you were a young person."
"Sex is giving, giving, giving. the more energy you have, the more energy you're going to please."
"Show me the guy who doesn't get nervous in front of a crowd, and I'll show you a lousy speaker."
"Would you get your dog up every day, give him a cup of coffee, a doughnut, and a cigarette. Hell no, you'd kill the damn dog."
"Any stupid person can die. Dying's easy. Living's a pain in the butt."
If you would like a piece of this man's energy, watch ESPN Classic Sports in the AM for the Jack LaLanne Show. Whenever I watch it, it makes me feel like I have wasted hundreds of dollars at health clubs across the country. I'm a firm believer in what LaLanne has to say about healthy lifestyles. Isometrics and natural foods....Weaver Street Market, here I come. Be ready for the return!
