"Fifteen Feet and In" Playlist, 12/19/05

A little rusty on the mic, but a lot of fun...'Big Fun'...

I started out with 'Go Ahead, John' off of Miles Davis's Big Fun album. Nice tune to start with, and I had a taste for the Blues yesterday. With that said, I found a Big Walter Horton album off of Alligator Records that was phenomeonal. If you can find Albert King's Live 1973 album, that's a doozy as well.

On my wish list, I think 'Steppin' Into Tomorrow' has to be on the list. I played Donald Byrd's 'Think Twice', which was redone by Erykah Badu...It's not even close, people... 'Think Twice' seguewayed smoothly into Main Source 'Lookin' Out The Front Door', which also used Byrd's 'Think Twice' as a sample.

I'm also up on Tom Scott's LA Express. I picked up the lead on Scott during my teen years while listening to the Blues Brothers...People don't ever underestimate that band...The Blues Brothers had a pile-driving rhythm section with Tom Scott on the Trombone. You can catch him now in David Letterman's band led by former Blues Brothers and Saturday Night Live band leader, Paul Schaffer.

With all that said, it was nice to be back on the air...Enjoy the list, and keep posted for more shows. I have some ideas for ya' coming your way...

Hi Bret, Just wanted to know the name of the song that was sampled on 3rd Base's "Soul in the hole". I also wanted to know the name of the break beat song that sampled 20th century steel band's "Heaven & Hell is on earth" vocals. I would really appreciate your response. My yahoo e-mail is: Salsarican76@yahoo.com. Thanks, Joe.

Did you play basketball at UNC? I got the Daugherty's and Brad Dougherty confused and seemed liked there was another one in the ACC. Presheat it if you could straighten it out.
Was googling Up Breaks of the Game by Halberstam and you came up.
Halberstam was a fan of my Hero Will Campbell and knew Marshall Frady; you familiar with either?
Here is the odd note of this comment. You have read The Teammates. Leon Culberson who goes in for Dom Dimaggio in the the 6th game 46 World Series in St. Louis, almost married my Dad's sister, Aunt Virginia.
Thought you would like to know.
Good playlist. Also check out Eliza Gilkyson fellow whose name I can't recall.
Oh, have you been able to turn up Gabriel Byrne's Dirty Old Town, or Danny's Apartment anywhere. I saw it only once, Sat Night Live in the 90's and never found it again.
Also Leon Russell did a fabulous horn version of Ain't That Peculiar, the Marvin Gaye track; Leon in a barn in Oklahoma made late night TV in the 70's
Can you help me there.
Hope things are otherwise well in the land of Carolina Blue.
